What is Bazi (Four Pillars of Destiny)?

Bazi, also known as the Four Pillars of Destiny, is a traditional Chinese astrological system that uses a person's birth year, month, day, and hour — each represented by a Heavenly Stem and an Earthly Branch — to form eight characters that reveal one's destiny path and potential. This ancient wisdom, deeply rooted in Chinese philosophy of Yin-Yang and the Five Elements, has been refined over thousands of years. Its interpretive framework traces back to classical texts such as Yuan Hai Zi Ping, Di Tian Sui, San Ming Tong Hui, and Wei Qianli's Qian Li Ming Gao, which underpin this tool's Five-Element, Ten-God, and Day Master strength analysis.

How to Read Your Bazi Chart?

Interpreting a Bazi chart focuses on several key dimensions:

• Day Master (Day Stem): Represents you, your core personality, and essential characteristics.
• Five Elements Balance: Measures the counts and strengths of Gold (Metal), Wood, Water, Fire, and Earth to see your energy balance.
• The 10 Gods (Shi Shen): Represents different facets of your life, career, wealth, and family relationships based on how other elements interact with your Day Master.
• 10-Year Major Luck Cycles (Da Yun): Indicates the energetic theme of each decade of your life, working together with individual years to shape your path.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q: What do the "Four Pillars" refer to?
A: The Four Pillars represent the Year, Month, Day, and Hour of your birth. Each pillar is composed of a Heavenly Stem and an Earthly Branch, totaling eight characters (Bazi).

Q: Does missing a certain element in my chart mean bad luck?
A: Not necessarily. Chinese astrology values the harmony and flow of energies rather than having everything equally. Missing elements can often be balanced or compensated through your name, career choices, colors, or geographical orientation.

Q: How do I use this online Bazi chart generator?
A: Simply select your solar (Gregorian) birth date and time, and our system will automatically look up the Chinese calendar, calculate the corresponding stems and branches, and generate a comprehensive destiny and element report.

Q: What calculation rules and calendar conventions are used?
A: Charts are calculated with the lunar-javascript 1.7.7 library. Year and month pillars are divided by exact solar-term (Jie Qi) boundaries, and day pillars follow the continuous sexagenary day cycle. Calculations use the local standard time you enter; no true-solar-time (longitude) correction is applied. For details, please see our About & Methodology page.
